The Former President's Policies Constitute a Threat to Civilization.
His national and international policies – from the attempted coup previously to current actions and statements – weaken not only national and global law. The implications are broader.
They jeopardize the fundamental meaning of what we mean by.
A guiding principle of civilized society is to forestall the stronger from preying upon and using the less powerful. Failing that, we could find ourselves trapped in a conflict of all against all where only the fittest could survive.
This principle is central of the nation's founding texts. It is equally the heart of the postwar international order advocated by the America, which stresses collective action, democratic governance, individual liberties, and the rule of law.
But, it is a fragile construct, often broken by those who choose to misuse their influence. Maintaining it necessitates that the those in charge have the moral fortitude to refrain from seeking short-term wins, and that society demand responsibility if they don't.
Unchecked strength does not equal right. It results in uncertainty, disruption, and war.
Whenever entities that are advantaged attack and exploit those that are less so, the framework of civilization frays. Should such behavior are allowed to continue, the structure collapses. Without intervention, the world can descend into instability and violence. It has happened before.
We now inhabit a global community grown vastly more unequal. Political and economic power are more concentrated than ever before. This encourages the privileged to take advantage of the weaker because they act with a sense of omnipotent.
The wealth of a handful of ultra-wealthy individuals is difficult to fathom. The reach of global industrial giants spans a vast portion of the world. AI is likely to further concentrate economic and political clout even more. The offensive capability of the major powers is without parallel in recorded history.
Supported by complicit legislators and a pliant supreme court, the highest office has been transformed into the most dominant and unchecked instrument of the state in history.
Consider this confluence and you grasp the danger.
A direct line connects earlier breaches of norms to ongoing provocations. These were based on the overconfidence of absolute power.
There is a similar pattern in the actions of other powers: in military conflicts, in expansive ambitions, and in the global depredation by massive conglomerates.
Yet, unfettered might does not make right. It fosters fragility, upended order, and war.
Historical evidence demonstrates that laws and norms to constrain the powerful also protect them. Without such constraints, their insatiable demands for more power and wealth ultimately lead to their downfall – and with them their enterprises, countries, or domains. And pave the way for international catastrophe.
Such lawlessness will haunt international stability – and indeed civilized conduct – for a long time.
