The Actress Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Nation Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate fitting to voice opinions countering the Trump administration, concerned it could worsen divisive discussions and deepen rifts throughout the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Lawrence
In a recent interview, Lawrence shared, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, public figures have no real impact at all on voter decisions.”
She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Jennifer Lawrence has admitted freely about voting for both conservative and liberal candidates in past elections. Raised by a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and stating she recognized during Obama’s administration that backing conservatives was undermining her own rights as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
Earlier in her career, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “as I feel she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to defend reproductive rights.”
Industry Position
The star was supported by numerous celebrities in her rejection of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence stars have over the public choices was underscored by his election win.
“The second term seems distinct,” said the actress regarding his leadership. “As he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for four years. He was transparent. And that’s what we chose.”
Current Projects
Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she plays a young mom who struggles with her psychological well-being in a remote area. Speaking at a press conference for the movie in Venice, Lawrence commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discourse of American politics currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the kids now. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”
She attempted to refocus anger about the issue to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on those accountable,” she advised, seen by observers as a nod to the then-recent pledge supported by numerous entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
Lawrence, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is receiving praise for her work in the new film. While Ramsay has rejected the plot being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, Lawrence shared that she connected with aspects of her film narrative after the birth of her youngest child, not long after shooting ended.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she said, “imagining every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a drug called the prescription and I took it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also discussed regarding the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the movie while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.
“It feels nice,” she remarked, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
