Reigning Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive season.
The 27-year-old won four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the world number one, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a 13-month break after the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after winning their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
